ACCESS is excited to announce a new local youth opourtunity through its Speak Up for Change program. ECLYPSE Youth Drop-In Centre, operated through Rapport Youth Family & Services, will be the host of ACCESS' new Speak Up for Change Workshop Series. The first workshop will be held at the ECLYPSE Bramalea on August 13, 14 and 15, 2012.

This one hour introduction to youth homelessness will educate participants on the issue in their communities. One Youth at a Time will be facilitated by Ali Golfetto and Poonam from Youth Without Shelter. Inspired by the 1500–2000 youth who seek shelter every night in Toronto, the workshop will build tolerance and empathy to the struggles these youth face.

It is through the Mission and Vision that ACCESS hopes to inspire leaders through the Speak Up for Change Workshop series. The goal of this series is to provide an outlet for youth to learn about specific areas that require change within their communities, and using self expressing through various forms of writing and visual arts to present them on SpeakUpForChange.ca.

Speak Up for Change is a blog program that was launched in 2008 by ACCESS with the intent to actively engage youth by encouraging them to express their thoughts on what they’re truly passionate about. The blog has grown to encompass topics such as change, education, environment, poverty, social justice and technology, in hopes of offering a variety of subject areas which youth can write about.

This summer workshop will serve as a preview to the 2012–2013 school year, as the annual Youth Making a Difference Conference held this coming fall will focus on providing youth with the tools to facilitate the change they want to see and be in the world – promoting positive social change. The Speak Up for Change workshops will remind youth of the importance of being involved in their communities to foster positive long-term changes.

The workshop schedule will be posted on speakupforchange.ca/workshops.
